Article – Sherry and Elvis

It is widely reported that Sherry dated Elvis Presley around the year 1960 at eighteen. Although she initially resisted being introduced to him because she thought he “needed a haircut”, after his army days she apparently liked his new crewcut look, and acquiesced to an introduction by her friend Jericho. When they went out, Elvis would sneak her into movies after the show started to avoid recognition. Elvis’ stage manager reports in his book that back at his home after their dates “the King” would lay his head in her lap and tell her about his problems. In most movie magazine articles where she is (alledgedly) interviewed, Sherry makes it quite clear that she and Elvis (or “El” as she calls him) were never romantic. Reportedly, she commiserated with her friend (actress Diane McBain) when her “future with Elvis” ended after refusing a date. Elvis wanted her to just drive herself over to his house instead of picking her up himself.

Other celebrities that Sherry reportedly dated include: Screen idol Troy Donahue, Rod Lauren, Chad Everett, and rock singer Bobby Rydell.

Article – Sherry’s Adopted Father, Danny Thomas

Sherry’s adopted father, Danny Thomas

Thomas played Danny Williams, a successful comedian and nightclub entertainer. Jean Hagen played his serious and loving wife Margaret, Sherry Jackson their daughter Terry, and Rusty Hamer their son Rusty. The show’s premise dealt with Danny rarely having time to spend with his family and Margaret dealing with the children on her own. Margaret often felt neglected by her husband and on several occasions felt like leaving him. Margaret was a society woman and strict with the children but loved her family. Louise Beavers made several appearances during this era as the Williams’ maid, Louise Evans, and often found herself at odds with Danny and sided with Margaret in most fights between the couple. Nana Bryant appeared often as Margaret’s kind mother, who Danny and the children were fond of; but Margaret, who had been raised by her aunt and uncle because of her mother being away on stage tours often, was not as warm towards her mother. Bryant died in late 1955 and her character simply stopped appearing. During 1955, Louise Beavers became ill and Amanda Randolph took over the role of Louise.
